Design Process

A blacksmith forges two pieces of metal together by heating and then hitting them. The hammer striking against the metal sends bright sparks flying. I created an art piece that celebrated these quick, bright sparks. My aim was to take a simple concept and explore it by creating something striking.

I enjoy experimenting with different media. In this case, I worked with glass, using it to create patterns that changed depending on the light falling on it. The movement of the sparks is reflected in these changing light patterns.

In the future, I would like to make it more dynamic, truly capturing the essence of fleeting sparks. It could, for example, be a pressure-sensitive surface where the art changes depending on the amount of force with which you hit the surface.
